Education Gold Coast introduces Woolaning Homeland Christian College in Woolaning, for all your education and learning needs.
Woolaning Homeland Christian College is campus of NT Christian Schools and strives to be; "a Christian community, learning together to live life as God intended, offering hope for the world".
The college, for secondary aged indigenous students, is adjacent to Litchfield National Park. Students board at the college during (six by six week) school terms, in purpose built "Family Group Home" accommodation. Regular contact between students and their home communities is encouraged.
An enormous challenge for the college is the low literacy and numeracy levels of many students who are commencing their secondary education. Attendance at primary school has been intermittent for many students and therefore some teenagers remain pre-literate upon enrolment at the college.
The college uses the "Accelerated Literacy" program, seeing average student gains of 1½ years per calendar year in literacy and numeracy. Progress is closely monitored and regularly assessed, with students moving onto higher levels as and when they have attained and maintained required standards.
Vocational training is provided for students in automotive, construction and teacher aide training.
The College has had a positive impact since commencing operation in 2002 and will continue to expand its facilities and increase this in future years.
Welcome to Woolaning Homeland Christian College one of the popular educators in your Woolaning area. Our aim is help you in your learning journey.
We endeavour to celebrate each other’s uniqueness by providing opportunity for all and to develop a culture that identifies that the journey towards excellence is often paved with trial and error, risk taking, learning from mistakes, flexibility and adaptability. We believe that encouraging students to take ownership of the learning is critical in achieving the best learning outcomes and that implicit in this concept is that students learn their own areas of strength and areas of development, through useful and explicit feedback.
